And the winner is…

Before I make the big announcement about the winner of the lesson pathways subscription – have you all ever heard that joke about the homeschooled kid changing a lightbulb? It goes like this:

Q: How many homeschoolers does it take to change a lightbulb?

A: First, mom checks three books on electricity out of the library, then the kids make models of light bulbs, read a biography of Thomas Edison and do a skit based on his life.

Next, everyone studies the history of lighting methods, wrapping up with dipping their own candles.

Next, everyone takes a trip to the store where they compare types of light bulbs as well as prices and figure out how much change they’ll get if they buy two bulbs for $1.99 and pay with a five dollar bill.

On the way home, a discussion develops over the history of money and also Abraham Lincoln, as his picture is on the five dollar bill.

Finally, after building a homemade ladder out of branches dragged from the woods, the light bulb is installed. And then… there is light.

Which brings me to today’s post. How many homeschoolers does it take to pick a winner for a blog contest?

1. One child uses the entries as part of her daily copywork. She reads the names and copies them on to individual strips of paper:

2. With some help from little sister, they use the names to practice sorting things by alphabetical order, and writing numbers 1 – 17.

3. Sick boy picks the winner:

Congratulations to Teresa!

Oh my gosh, where do I begin?? I was visiting a popular homeschool unit study site’s forum. Someone had posted a link to Lesson Pathways talking about how it looked very promising. I decided to click on it and see what it was all about. Once I read the concept for Lesson Pathways, my pulse started to quicken and my breathing became heavy. I couldn’t believe I had found the site that I had been dreaming about for so long! You see, I am a homeschool mom of the eclectic variety. A little bit of this and a little bit of that and I try to make it work. My problem though, is that I end up with a lot of this and a lot of that and I get overwhelmed! The internet is such a wonderful resource for homeschoolers but there is just so much out there that it almost becomes stressful trying to decide what to use. My “favorites” tab is so full of educational websites that I have bookmarked and saved but I know I will never get back to half of them since there are only 24 hours in a day. Lesson Pathways has sorted it all out and tells me what to use when, where to click for what, and what I will need to make. For example, my son and I have been getting our feet wet learning about Colonial America. We have checked out some books from the library on the subject and I have googled a little bit. When I looked up the history pathway for grade 5 and saw all the different things we could do and the way it was laid out, I couldn’t believe my eyes. My eyelids were getting heavy and I knew I should be going to bed, but I had to keep looking at what all Lesson Pathways had.

Thanks to everyone who entered. Sorry that not everyone could be a winner but I’m glad that I got to introduce you to Lesson pathways!

Teresa – I have sent your e-mail address to the Lesson Pathways team and they will be contacting you soon to set up your year’s subscription!
