Like Buttah…

Yesterday, my friend Shauna mentioned on facebook that she had made her own butter. Then I saw in the comments that she got the idea from our other friend Rowena who saw it on Little house in the Suburbs.

So while making dinner last night, I found myself with some leftover whipping cream and was thrilled at the prospect of actually using it up instead of putting a nearly empty container of heavy cream back into the fridge where it would most likely become a lovely science experiment.

Much to my delight, I learned that all it takes to make butter is some whipping cream and a blender!

(By the way, have I ever mentioned that I love my magic bullet blender? Well I do. I love it.)

I put the cream into the blender and made whipping cream – which I have done a million times before – and then just kept on blending and within a few minutes, I had BUTTER! And let me tell you, it wasn’t just “LIKE buttah*, IT. WAS. BUTTER!

It also made about a tablespoon of buttermilk so I added it to the roasted tomato soup that was on the stove. Then! I had the fabulous idea to flavor the butter for our bread so I chopped some of the garlic scapes from our CSA basket and blended it into the butter. It was delicious served on warm homemade whole wheat bread.

Ahhhh….. the power of suggestion.
