Never a dull moment!

Here is the latest (and greatest!) classic car to rent a room at the Clark Garage.

It arrived last week from Canada and Bruce is enjoying it for a while. We’re hoping that this car will repeat history and be recession proof when we try to sell it eventually. (It originally sold for a pretty penny at the height of the depression – a lot of dough for that time in history.)

Today he took it out for a spin to keep the engine running well and to snap some photos. Abby and Nathan begged him to go along but it was getting close to dinnertime and it was a little cold out so he promised they could go the next time and he headed out solo. That proved providential because about 20 minutes later I got a phone call from a number I did not recognize and it was Bruce calling from a neighbor’s house in the next subdivision over. The car had run out of gas (he hoped that was the problem) and he was stranded and though he was relatively close to home, he did not want to leave the car unattended.

I quickly called our neighbor and asked if I could send Abby and Nathan over to play for a while and then bundled Sarah up and headed out the door. I grabbed my cell phone with the intention of calling my Sister In Law who was headed over to the house to pick up some baby clothes for a friend who is expecting any day now.

As I was walking out the door, she and my nephew were coming up the sidewalk so I explained what was going on and they followed me over to see Bruce.

He was pleasantly surprised when I pulled up with a Suburban full of family and friends behind me. They kept him company while Sarah and I drove to the nearest gas station and filled up the gas cans.

Thankfully when we returned, the car started right up after getting a little fuel and we were on our way back home in no time. Bruce took the kids for a spin in the car on the way home, too.

It was one of those events that could have turned out disastrously but worked out for the good of everyone involved. (Although, I don’t know why I am ever surprised  when stuff like that happens.)
