“Wunnie E-ow!!”

Oh my precious little Sarah Anne is TALKING UP A STORM lately!
She loves drawing with markers and whenever they are allowed to be used (under close supervision – she likes to draw on things other than paper – such as her legs, the carpet or the walls!) she immediately asks for “WUNNIE E-OW!” which means “Draw me a cat!” Everyone in the family has become proficient at drawing cats because if a cat is not on the paper within a matter of seconds, LOOK OUT! You will hear “Wunnie E-Ow!” until she wears you down!
This morning while I was eating toast she said, “Mama – I want toast!” When I started to cut mine in half to share with her she said, “No, Mama! I want my *OWN* toast!” She wasn’t mad or demanding. She was just so serious and she wanted me to know beyond a shadow of a doubt that she was not up for sharing a piece of toast!
If we call for her in the house (she likes to wander off and play up in the loft or with her dollhouse) she will answer back and say “I tummin’ Mama!”
She’s very sure of what she wants and now that she is forming complete sentences, she’s even more articulate about her needs. (Yes, I said NEEDS.) Often, she will tell us what she wants but lately she has starting telling us that she NEEDS things.
“Daddy – I need mo oatmeal!” “I NEED MO MOTE!” (milk) “I NEED MY JUICIE!” At bedtime after we leave the room she always hollers after us and says “I NEED MO WAHDOO!” (Water)
She’s also good about telling you when she does NOT want something.
Yesterday I put a bowl of soup down in front of her at dinnertime and she said, “I not eat dat soup, Mama.”
When she wants to be held she will say “Hold me me!”
When she is cold she will say “Hoo Hoo!”
When she was feeling under the weather and was running a fever she crawled up in my lap and said, “Hoh me me, Mama – I so Hoo Hoo!”
She also likes to say her ABC’s! (She will say “NO” or “Uh uh!” when she gets to a letter she does not want to say. She’s a hoot!)
I could listen to her ALL DAY LONG!!!!!!!!!!!
(In the event that you could also listen to her talk all day – Here’s a 5 minute clip of her talking about markers.
)
“Don’t look, Mama!”
We’ve had a rough week around here. Nathan and Abby have both been ill with Hand Foot and Mouth Disease. (Sounds horrible, doesn’t it?)
Nathan had it BAD (that poor boy always gets EVERYTHING bad! He doesn’t just run a little fever when he gets sick, his fevers are always in the 104′s and he’s DOWN for at least a few days.) They both have had blisters in their mouths and that has made eating an adventure. They’ve had popsicles, blueberries and ice cream with a little Gatorade and chocolate milk thrown in for hydration. That’s about all of the food they have eaten in a week.
Today was a better day. Nathan was in very good spirits and is getting back to his “old self.” this afternoon when I walked into the schoolroom, he was sitting at the table with his favorite blue marker working hard on a piece of art. When he saw me walk in he said, “Don’t look, Mama! I’m making this for YOU!”

Summer Reading

Our library had a summer reading program that offered prizes to every child who read or listened to 10 or more hours of books in a 1 month period. Today we went and turned in Abby’s reading log. (At least the ones that I remembered to write down!) She was awarded a pair of swimming goggles, a certificate, and a free pass to an area attraction of her choice.
Many of these books are from the great “Books From Birth” program and a few of them are from the Sonlight Reading List.
I must admit – it gives me great joy to see her nose in a book. Sometimes she’s so intently reading them that she refuses to put them down when she needs to walk into another room for something. Today, she almost fell up the stairs!
Here are the books that Abby has read silently or aloud to her siblings in the last month:
Meet Kirsten (American Girl Book)
Revolutionary War on Wednesday
Officer Buckle & Gloria Patron
If You Lived At The Time Of The American Revolution
