“Don’t look, Mama!”
We’ve had a rough week around here. Nathan and Abby have both been ill with Hand Foot and Mouth Disease. (Sounds horrible, doesn’t it?)
Nathan had it BAD (that poor boy always gets EVERYTHING bad! He doesn’t just run a little fever when he gets sick, his fevers are always in the 104′s and he’s DOWN for at least a few days.) They both have had blisters in their mouths and that has made eating an adventure. They’ve had popsicles, blueberries and ice cream with a little Gatorade and chocolate milk thrown in for hydration. That’s about all of the food they have eaten in a week.
Today was a better day. Nathan was in very good spirits and is getting back to his “old self.” this afternoon when I walked into the schoolroom, he was sitting at the table with his favorite blue marker working hard on a piece of art. When he saw me walk in he said, “Don’t look, Mama! I’m making this for YOU!”

Smart little boy he is!
As I’ve mentioned, we’ve been doing a bit of paper crafting lately. One of the favorites with both Abby and Nathan are paper dolls. I print at least one a day and they color them and cut them out. (Well, Nathan just usually cuts his up but it’s good exercise for his little hands.)
Last week I was working on the computer and Nathan walked up to the printer and peered into the slot where the paper comes out and said “Paper man – can you come play wit me?” and then Nathan asked me, “Mommy – can you make da paperman come out of dere? I wanna play wit him!”
I recently got a laminator (or lemodnader as our friend Ella calls it) and so I laminated their paper dolls so that they could stick around longer than just 5 minutes. We found a boy paper doll for Nathan – The Bruce Lee Paper Doll – complete with nunchucks!
Well sweet little Nathan put together that this doll has the same name as his Daddy so when I asked him what Abby’s doll was named he said, “She MOMMY LEE!”
Bruce Lee and Mommy Lee – The Happy Couple. (Well, at least Mommy looks happy – Bruce looks like he’s about to go kick some donut!)

Art Project: Valentine Wreath
This was a fun and easy project that I found HERE.
We used a hot glue gun instead of a glue stick, though, so maybe it will last a little longer!

Abby loves to cut out hearts. I find lots of hearts floating around all over the house. For this project, I folded paper and drew several half hearts and then Abby cut them out of the paper.

(By the way, scissor activities now have to be much more closely supervised due to the fact that last weekend at Nana’s, Abby snuck in to the bathroom and cut some pretty sizable chunks out of her hair!) Today, though, she did well under my very watchful eye. While she was cutting the hearts, I glued them on to a paper plate that I had cut the center out of. It was the perfect after nap / before dinner activity. Nathan even got in on the fun. He “fringed” the edges of a piece of paper while we made the wreath.

We had lots of fun!

This bought me about an hour
My current definition of bliss: Children playing nicely and quietly together. I love it when that happens!

These tax free art supplies were certainly worth every penny!

Sam & Charlie
Last week I gave Abby a box of stationery and cards that I was not using along with some markers for her “quiet box” in her bedroom. (She’s an EARLY waker and I put together some quiet morning activities for her to do while we get a few extra zzzzzz’s. Some mornings it works, some mornings, not so much.)
This particular morning was a school morning and she decided that she would write cards complete with pictures in them. These were for her friends Sam and Charlie. She talks of them often. Most frequently she tells me. “I like Sam and Charlie, mama – But they always pretend that they are shooting at me!”

It may have been an accident but look! A turtle!
