COWS…

COWS…

SNAKE!!!

Just another day here in suburbia.

Something sure seems out of place in this picture, doesn’t it? Oh, right! The huge cattle trailer and bull parked on the road of our subdivision. For some reason, I don’t think our Homeowner’s Association would be OK with this! Good thing our neighbors love us! :)

Bruce and the kids headed out this morning to College Grove to take in a bull.

We’ll have beef available in 3 weeks if you’re interested!

Did I tell y’all?

We’re officially selling hormone free all natural beef?

We got our USDA license and we’re selling beef out of the freezer!
We have some now if you’re interested!

Here’s the link to the website!

Come see us if you’re like some!

this and that

Bruce and Nathan went to take a bull to the processor yesterday. (That’s code word for you folks who can’t stand to hear the word “slaughterhouse”, you know!)

They left bright and early to pick up the trailer and spent the day together doing manly things like loading up a bull, cutting up a tree so they could cross a road, pumping up a low tire and eating pizza.

Later at the homefront, Abby and I did “school.”

(Yes – those letters are made out of green beans. We had quite a few and she and Sarah were snacking on them.

They got spilled on the floor and Abby thought that 2 of them kind of landed in the shape of an A. That of course led to us spelling out all of our names. Much more fun that doing some worksheets at a desk, huh?)

Later, Abby and Nathan got ready for an outing to Nana’s. They went ahead and got their PJ’s on to be ready for the sleepover and played Barbies while I packed their bag. Nathan of course played with his “man Barbies.”

Well, this is a possibility.

Remember last spring when we were considering a move to Scottsville, KY? The house up there was in such disarray that I had to photoshop it to even let myself consider living there.

We’ve been pursuing a change of pace for some time now but we’re taking our time and being patient – Just waiting on God’s timing and His provision. Ultimately, we’d like to live and work on some property (Bruce would do some cattle work) and we would like for me to be able to NOT work outside the home and just focus on being a wife, a mother, a teacher – essentially the queen of the castle. :)

That’s a tall order, huh? Yes, it is – But we serve an awesome God and He has put these desires into our hearts. He has been bringing things out of nowhere lately. Various living situations to consider – to get us thinking in directions we had not considered before.

We’ve talked to a man in Franklin about being a caretaker of an estate there. That didn’t pan out but there were several things that would not have been ideal about that one – even though it was relatively close to Nashville. Most recently we took a trip to Kentucky to meet with a cattle farmer there who would like Bruce to work for him and would offer us living arrangements as part of the package. Here’s the farm house (pictured below). It’s a bit small and quirky but certainly a vast improvement over last year’s visit to Kentucky!

God is up to something and we are just walking along and trusting Him as this all unfolds. It could be years and years until this dream is fulfilled but we believe that it will eventually happen and that when it does, it will be EXCELLENT!!

UPDATE: This one is out – And I’m kinda glad. At this point, I’m just ready to sit back and breathe a bit – and be content in our current circumstances.

As you can imagine…

Dinnertime conversations have been interesting this week.

Anyone need a cow bred?

For all the discussion we’ve had around here…

…in regards to Bruce changing career paths one day, being a teacher does have it’s perks!!

Say it with me, now…

“SNOW DAY!!!!!!!”

Sarah slept through all the fun but hopefully we’ll get one or two more “snowstorms” before it’s all over with.

And do you see that McDonald’s Styrofoam plate? Bruce took the kids out early this morning and got pancakes while Sarah and I slept in. Ahhhhhhhhhh.

He’s out checking on a cow right now. While I was putting Abby down for her nap he slipped out but he did leave me a note, “I’m going to check on the mama cows – Unless one of the calves is coming out the wrong way, I’ll be home soon.”

I wonder if cattle farmers get snowdays?

What a week!!!!!!

Pshew. I am just now able to breathe.

We have had a heckuva week around the Clark house.

First, we’re all coming off of a nasty upper respiratory bug that had us all down and out at some point or other for the last few weeks.

Second, Nathan had his dental surgery on Thursday! It went as good as can be expected. He was really scared when we first went back to the pre-op room but after some versed, he was feeling pretty good.

We snuggled and giggled together and Grammie came to visit us. But after about an hour and a half, the i-don’t-care-that-i-am-in-a-hospital-gown medicine began to wear off and the dentist was late getting him back for the procedure. We blew up latex gloves at an attempt to entertain him and wheeled him around in a little tykes wagon trying to occupy him until FINALLY they came and got him. One nurse distracted him while another took the wagon and wheeled him in. I can only imagine the trauma he dealt with when he realized I was not the one pulling him in to the wagon and they had to move him to the operating table and strap the gas over his face. I get sick to my stomach thinking about it, really.

That was one of the longest hours of my entire life.

When he woke up, he was pretty hysterical but they called me back as soon as he was fully alert. We got out of there as quickly as we could. On the ride home and for about 2 hours after that, he was pretty much out of his head. By about 6pm he was coming around to his sweet little self again and by the next day, younever knew anything had happened.

He came away with 3 little fillings and one silver tooth.

Note to self: Do not nurse Sarah to sleep after her teeth come in. Boy, talk about mamaguilt.

Here are a few pictures that I managed to snap before my phone died:

We’re so glad that’s over with and all is well. He was so brave.

Then on Friday, Bruce drove to College Grove to pick up the cows from the processor! (Although I guess we should refer to them as “beef” now…) We’ll not have to buy hamburger or roasts or steak for a year and we have some to share if you’re in the market! It has been a fun experiment for Bruce and he is hoping to do it again next spring.

Yesterday, Abby had her Little House On The Prairie Birthday Party. I’ll make a separate post about that but for now, here’s a slide show!

(Click the picture to go to the show!)

Abby turns FIVE tomorrow. I can hardly believe that my motherhood journey started that long ago. It seems like yesterday that I held this baby in my arms.

Did I tell you?

The cows are no more?

Well… They’re not breathing anymore. They’re dry aging in Triune, waiting to be picked up in a few weeks.

We went to visit them the night before Bruce took them in to the processor. Abby fed them carrots and Nathan called “cows! comeon!” just one more time.

They had a good and happy life. And you know, a happy cow makes a mean steak!

(By the way – We will have some available from the freezer if you’d like some! )
